Gunmen attack Pakistan passenger vehicles, killing at least 38 people

Pakistan’s Peshawar At least 38 people were killed and 29 injured when gunmen opened fire on passenger cars in a tribal area in northwest Pakistan on Thursday, according to Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry, the chief secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

A lady and a kid were among those killed in the incident, which took place in the Kurram tribal district, Chaudhry said, adding: It’s a big tragedy and the death toll is going to climb.

Due to a territorial dispute in the tribal region that borders Afghanistan, armed Shia and Sunni Muslims have been at odds for decades.

No group took ownership of the incident.

Ziarat Hussain, a local Parachinar resident, told Reuters over the phone that armed men opened fire on two passenger vehicle convoys, one from Peshawar to Parachinar and another from Parachinar to Peshawar. He also mentioned that his relatives were in the convoy, traveling from Peshawar.

In a statement, President Asif Ali Zardari vehemently denounced the assault on passenger cars.
