Hannah Kobayashi family offers refunds to those donating to search efforts now that she’s found

On Thursday, the sister of Hannah Kobayashi, the Hawaiian lady at the focus of a missing persons inquiry in Southern California, updated the family’s GoFundMe website to offer refunds to donors.

The 30-year-old Hannah Kobayashi was discovered safe, according to her family’s announcement on Wednesday, however they did not specify when or where she was located.

“Hannah’s safe arrival has brought us immense relief and gratitude. Our family has had an unfathomable ordeal over the past month,” Sydni Kobayashi said on the GoFundMe website. “We would want to sincerely thank everyone who helped us through this trying time. We are so grateful for your thoughtfulness and kindness.”

Additionally, the post said that donations had been disabled and that anyone requesting a refund could do so by December 18 and “it will be honored.”

In addition to covering the costs of the search for Hannah Kobayashi, the GoFundMe campaign generated nearly $46,000 for the funeral of her father, Ryan Kobayashi, who committed suicide on November 24 after the family traveled to Los Angeles last month to look for her.

According to her family, Hannah Kobayashi was supposed to board a subsequent trip to New York City after landing at Los Angeles International Airport on November 8. Five days after missing that flight, she was reported missing.

She texted her relatives after missing the trip, expressing fear and implying that someone was trying to steal her identity and money.

On November 12, Los Angeles police found video showing Hannah Kobayashi walking through a land port in San Diego and into Mexico.

She purposefully missed her connecting flight, according to police, and there was no proof of foul play or human trafficking.

According to her family, they were looking into the possibility that she was involved in an immigration marriage scam.
