He faked his own death in 2020. A trail of rape and fraud allegations finally caught up to him.

In Rhode Island, Nicholas Alahverdian was well-known for being an ardent supporter of children in the foster care system. He was honored on the statehouse floor and in local press coverage following his apparent death from cancer four years ago.

However, Alahverdian, 37, was still alive and residing in the UK under a different identity. Beneath his advocacy work, however, was a trail of claims of fraud, abuse, and rape that covered thousands of miles and involved numerous victims.

Watch “The Man of Many Faces” on “Dateline” tonight at 9 ET/8 CT for additional coverage of the global manhunt.

Despite having previously entered a no contest plea to a misdemeanor domestic abuse charge in Rhode Island and been found guilty of a misdemeanor sex crime in Ohio, Alahverdian denied sexually abusing or deceiving anyone in a 2022 interview with Dateline. He is currently facing trial in two different rape incidents in Utah, where officials have identified him as Nicholas Rossi. He entered a not guilty plea to the accusations.

This is a look at the accusations made against Alahverdian from Rhode Island to Utah and beyond.
