Houthis fire a ballistic missile named ‘Palestine 2’ at Tel Aviv

In a rare case of a failed interception over the city, a missile fired from Yemen reached the Israeli city of Tel Avive early Saturday morning, according to the Israel Defense Forces.

The IDF claims that after warning sirens sounded in the vicinity and interception measures failed, the missile landed in the southern Jaffa sector of Tel Aviv.

Although there were no recorded deaths, Israel’s emergency services stated that it was treating 14 individuals who had been hurt by glass fragments and were in a mild condition.According to the Israeli police, there had also been property damage.

Following the attack, the Iran-backed Houthi militants in Yemen claimed responsibility, saying they had fired the Palestine 2, a hypersonic ballistic missile, toward an Israeli military installation in the Jaffa region.

The Houthis said in a statement issued Saturday morning that the attack was in retaliation for the crimes against our brothers in Gaza and that the missile reached its target precisely and was not intercepted by the defense or interception systems.

Shortly after, Hamas issued a statement praising the strike.

Over the Red Sea, one of the busiest waterways in the world, almost all Houthi rockets have been intercepted. The organization has also targeted commercial vessels in the area.

Since the beginning of the nearly year-long conflict in Gaza, which was triggered when Hamas assaulted southern Israel, killing about 1200 people there, Israel and Houthi rebels have frequently launched retaliation attacks against one another. According to Palestinian health officials, 45,000 individuals have been murdered in Israeli attacks in Gaza, the majority of them were women and children.

At least 25 Palestinians were killed by Israeli bombings in Gaza on Friday, according to health sources cited by Reuters.

The Director General of Health in Gaza, Dr. Muneer Alboursh, reported that 12 persons were killed in an attack on a home in Jabaliya, northern Gaza, “most of them children and a woman.” He described the assault as a “bloody massacre,” adding that other people had been hurt by the bombing.

The Houthis have justified their strikes on Israel by pointing to the continuous escalation in Gaza.

In September, a ballistic missile fired from Yemen crossed into Israel and landed in an open field outside of Tel Aviv, injuring nine people who were rushing to shelters.

Israel’s business and diplomatic center is Tel Aviv, the country’s second-largest metropolis. Due to Israel’s typically strong air defense systems, direct impacts from incoming munitions on the city are rare.

The IDF stated on Thursday that a missile fired from Yemen was partially intercepted, causing damage to a school close to Tel Aviv.

It claimed later that day that Israel had attacked “military targets” in Yemen’s inland and western shore, including “fuel and oil tanks, two power plants, and eight tugboats.”
