The husband of a San Antonio woman who has been missing for a month has been charged with murder.
Brad Simpson is charged in the death of
Suzanne Simpson
, 51, a mother of four who was last seen outside her home in San Antonio on Oct. 7 by her neighbor, officials have said.
Authorities have not publicly announced that Suzanne Simpson’s body has been found.
In a news conference Friday afternoon, Olmos Park Police Chief Fidel Villegas said the case has been turned over to the Bexar County Criminal District Attorney’s Office.
Villegas did not provide any details on what evidence law enforcement has gathered that led to the murder charge against Brad Simpson.
“We realize that this doesn’t bring closure to Suzanne’s family, but we hope it will allow them to enter the next phase of their grieving process with more clarity,” he said.
Bart Simpson, who is Brad Simpson’s brother, spoke at the media briefing.
He said while Suzanne Simpson’s death is “heartbreaking,” the family is coming to terms with it and has begun “rebuilding our lives for the sake of the children and our extended family.”
Bart Simpson pleaded with his sibling
to work with investigators.
“It is our sincere hope and prayer that Brad will find the compassion and courage to end his family’s suffering by cooperating with the authorities to help us find his wife.”
Brad Simpson was arrested Oct. 10 on charges of family violence, according to court records.
No one with the Bexar County’s public defender’s office, which was representing Simpson, could immediately be reached for comment Thursday night and
Friday afternoon.
NBC affiliate WOAI reported that neighbors called police last month because they heard the couple arguing.
A police report obtained by the station
said a neighbor saw the couple physically fighting
. The neighbor also later heard yelling coming from nearby woods.
A federal complaint was filed against Simpson the day after he was arrested last month. He is accused of unlawfully possessing a short-barrel rifle that was not registered to him, according to the complaint.
