Idaho teen arrested after dead newborn found in baby box at hospital

More than a month after a dead baby was discovered in the Safe Haven Baby Box at the Grove Creek Medical Center in Blackfoot, an Idaho adolescent was taken into custody, according to the police.

On October 13, a medical team responded to an alarm alerting them that an infant had been placed in the medical center, and within a minute, the newborn girl was taken out of the box. However, according to a news release from Safe Haven Baby Boxes last month, it was found that the newborn had been dead for a long time when she was put in the baby box.

According to a news release issued by the Blackfoot Police Department on Friday, “The Safe Haven Baby Box is intended to safely and anonymously allow custodial parents to surrender a newborn under 30 days old without legal repercussions, provided the child is unharmed.” “Unfortunately, the placement of a harmed or deceased infant is not protected under this system or Idaho law.”

According to online documents, 18-year-old Twin Falls resident Angel N. Newberry was detained Thursday after an investigation for failing to notify the coroner and law authorities of a death. The teenager was taken to the jail in Bingham County.

“Due to the sensitive nature of the ongoing investigation and the potential for further criminal charges, we are limited in the information we can provide,” police stated.
