When playing with a group of people or if you have drift, where the thumbsticks sense movement even when you aren’t touching them, they are indispensable. (In my experience, Nintendo fixes this problem for free, but it may take several weeks.) These fit into the Nintendo Switch and OLED variants and are legally licensed by Nintendo.
