A woman is facing multiple charges after fleeing from a routine traffic stop conducted by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) on Sunday afternoon, turning an ordinary enforcement action into a dramatic vehicle and foot pursuit.
The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Dunisha Pinner, was pulled over by IMPD officers from the North District when the situation suddenly escalated. According to officials, Pinner attempted to evade law enforcement during the stop, initiating a high-alert pursuit in the northern part of Indianapolis.
Incident Unfolds
The chase began around Sunday afternoon, though IMPD has not disclosed the exact time of the incident. Officers on patrol initiated the stop, but before they could complete the process, Pinner reportedly took off in her vehicle. The chase soon moved beyond vehicular pursuit as Pinner abandoned her car and fled on foot.
Authorities quickly escalated the response, with additional North District patrol units and K-9 officers assisting in the effort to apprehend the suspect. IMPD confirmed that a K-9 unit was crucial in tracking and locating Pinner shortly after the foot chase began.
She was arrested without any reported injuries to officers, bystanders, or herself.
Charges and Arrest
Pinner was taken into custody and transported to Marion County Jail. As of now, the official list of charges has not been released to the public, but police stated she is facing multiple charges related to resisting law enforcement, including fleeing in a vehicle and on foot.
The case is under investigation, and IMPD has indicated that more details may be released following the formal filing of charges by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.
Public Safety and Department Statement
In a statement shared on their official social media channels, IMPD emphasized the importance of compliance during traffic stops. “Incidents like this show how a routine stop can quickly become dangerous. Thankfully, our officers and K-9 partners worked swiftly and professionally to ensure public safety,” the department said.
Local residents near the area reported increased police presence during the chase but confirmed that there were no disturbances beyond the pursuit.

Traffic Stops and Legal Responsibilities
Fleeing from police, especially during a traffic stop, can lead to serious consequences in Indiana. According to Indiana Code § 35-44.1-3-1, resisting law enforcement using a vehicle is classified as a Level 6 felony, which can carry a penalty of up to 2.5 years in prison and fines. If a pursuit results in injury or endangers the public, the charges can escalate further.
Under Indiana law, individuals are required to comply with law enforcement during all types of traffic enforcement. Refusing to stop or attempting to evade police can be prosecuted aggressively, particularly when the incident leads to community risk or the involvement of specialized units like K-9 officers.
Community Reaction
The incident has sparked a conversation on social media about the rising number of individuals attempting to flee traffic stops. While many residents applauded the swift action of IMPD and their K-9 units, others raised concerns about public safety during such high-stress encounters.
Community members are encouraged to contact IMPD’s North District headquarters if they witnessed the event or have any additional footage that could assist in the investigation.
