Inmate at Niagara County Correctional Facility Faces New Charges After Alleged Attack on Officer

(WNY News Now) – A confrontation at the Niagara County Correctional Facility on Halloween night led to charges for an incarcerated woman after she allegedly assaulted a correction officer.

LOCKPORT, NY — Shaquana Jones, a 31-year-old incarcerated at the Niagara County Correctional Facility, faces new legal troubles following an alleged altercation with a correction officer on October 31, 2024. According to Niagara County Sheriff Michael J. Filicetti, Jones was involved in a physical dispute with another inmate when an officer stepped in to intervene. During the officer’s attempt to de-escalate the situation, Jones reportedly grabbed the officer by the collar and continued to act aggressively.

As the officer worked to break free, Jones allegedly attempted to strike him multiple times before additional correctional staff arrived to subdue and restrain her. Following the incident, Jones was charged with Harassment in the second degree, classified as a violation, and Obstructing Governmental Administration in the second degree, a Class A misdemeanor.

Jones received appearance tickets for these charges and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Lockport Court on November 7, 2024. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
