Inmate Charged with Criminal Mischief After Property Damage Incident at Chautauqua County Jail

(WNY News Now) – An inmate at Chautauqua County Jail faces new charges following alleged property damage within the facility.

On November 5, 2024, authorities at Chautauqua County Jail reported an incident involving inmate Xavier Rodriguez, 35, who allegedly caused damage to county-owned property. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Rodriguez’s actions led to a charge of Criminal Mischief in the 3rd Degree, a class E felony under New York law, which applies when an individual intentionally damages another’s property exceeding a certain value threshold.

The incident, occurring around 3:30 p.m., resulted in swift charges as county officials moved to address the damage. Rodriguez, already serving time within the Chautauqua County Jail, is scheduled for arraignment through the Centralized Arraignment Court system. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
