Israel and Hezbollah ceasefire and Thanksgiving winter weather: Morning Rundown

Israel and Hezbollah enter a truce mediated by the United States. Thanksgiving is expected to bring winter conditions. Additionally, Hallmark and the NFL collaborate on a romantic comedy with a Kansas City Chiefs theme.

What to know today is as follows.

Ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah takes effect

A day after President Joe Biden made the announcement, a truce mediated by the United States between Israel and the armed Hezbollah group in Lebanon went into effect. The agreement ended violence along the Israel-Lebanese border and entered into effect at 4 a.m. local time. Biden declared that the truce would last forever and that the United States and its allies will see to it that the agreement was carried out completely. Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime leader of Israel, announced earlier Tuesday that his Cabinet had voted 10 ministers to 1 in favor of the U.S.-brokered agreement.

The escalating tensions and back-and-forth strikes over the past year have killed scores of people in Israel, hundreds in Lebanon, and displaced tens of thousands on both sides of the border, adding to the growing threat of a regional conflict.

Iran-supported Israel saw Hezbollah’s declaration that it was aiding the Palestinian resistance in Israel’s military campaign in the Gaza Strip as another attempt by Tehran to strike the Jewish state. Several of Hezbollah’s most prominent leaders, including Hassan Nasrallah, have also been slain by Israel.

Israeli forces will now begin to leave Lebanon. The senior U.S. official stated that all Israeli troops will leave their positions in 50 to 60 days and that a 60-day period will begin during which the Lebanese military and security forces will commence their deployment toward the south.

Arctic outbreak forecast for Thanksgiving

Due to weather and a lack of air traffic controllers, thousands of aircraft were delayed and dozens of planes were canceled yesterday. The FAA imposed a ground delay at Newark Liberty International till the early hours of this morning.

A pair of weather systems were predicted to deliver an Arctic outbreak throughout portions of the United States into the weekend, the National Weather Service says. It is predicted that today’s temperatures across the Great Plains will only reach the teens and twenties. An atmospheric river event was predicted to deliver rain and, in some areas, snow to the Great Basin, the Rockies, and Central and Southern California. Snow is predicted for certain areas of the upper Michigan peninsula. New York City is also expected to experience rain. Here are some additional travel and holiday weather forecasts.

The obscure ICE program setting up deportation battles

A little-known Clinton-era program is anticipated to be used by President-elect Donald Trump’s administration to assist in implementing the mass deportations he pledged to implement throughout his campaign. The 287(g) program is a regulation that permits Immigration and Customs Enforcement to grant state and local law enforcement officials the authority to carry out specific immigration officer duties. After receiving training, local correctional officers are able to transfer a criminal to ICE custody for deportation after verifying the defendant’s immigrant status.

The program’s supporters claim that it does not provide local police the authority to apprehend undocumented immigrants who are out on the streets. If they are brought in, they are arrested for a crime they have committed, an act against the people of Harford County, Maryland, according to Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler. At that time, they are held responsible for their illegal entry into the country.

Some claim the program just acts as a political propaganda tool for conservative sheriffs and police chiefs, while others claim it amounts to racial profiling while creating fear in immigrant neighborhoods.

According to Trump, local assistance with federal immigration enforcement will be mandatory. However, a number of elected Democrats are pledging to oppose the major deportation efforts of his administration, paving the way for a future conflict.Go here to read the entire story.
