Jamestown Couple Arrested for Alleged Child Endangerment in Disturbing Welfare Check

(WNY News Now) – A welfare check led Jamestown police to discover three young children living in hazardous conditions, resulting in child endangerment charges for two city residents.

Jamestown, N.Y. – On the evening of November 7, 2024, Jamestown police officers responded to a welfare check at a residence on the city’s north side, located at 114 W. 7th Street. Upon arrival, officers found that three small children were allegedly living in what authorities described as “dangerous and deplorable conditions.”

Amber L. Peru, 30, and David C. Burkhart, 31, both residents of Jamestown, were taken into custody. Following the investigation, the two were each charged with three counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Peru and Burkhart were transported to the Jamestown City Jail, where they are being held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court. Authorities confirmed that the children were safely turned over to a family member and are no longer in the residence. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
