Jamestown Man Arrested After Traffic Stop on Buffalo St. for DWI, Drug Possession, and Unlicensed Operation

(WNY News Now) After a traffic check this morning, 40-year-old Jamestown resident Darryl D. Cavness was taken into custody on Buffalo Street and charged with several offenses, including narcotics possession and DUI.

Jamestown, New York. At at 3:17 a.m. on January 23, 2025, Jamestown Police Department officers pulled over 40-year-old Darryl D. Cavness after seeing him operating a car on Buffalo St. Because Cavness had previously been convicted of DWI, authorities knew that his driving privileges had been revoked.

Officers arrested Cavness for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) and DWI Per Se after he failed field sobriety tests during the encounter. In addition to the DWI charges, Cavness was found to have violated several other laws, such as Operating a Vehicle Without an Ignition Interlock Device, which is illegal because of prior DWI offenses, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation First Degree, which involves operating a vehicle without a valid license.

Cavness was also charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree (CPCS 7th) after it was discovered via further investigation that he was in possession of a controlled substance.

Cavness was arrested and detained until his arraignment. To respond to the charges, he will appear in Jamestown City Court. The accused is deemed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, just like everyone else who is accused of a crime.
