Jacob Rivera-Abbey, 24, is charged with a felony after he reportedly broke an order of protection in the Town of Ellicott on January 2 (WNY News Now).
New York’s Ellicott. On January 2, a 24-year-old Jamestown man was taken into custody on suspicion of breaking a stay-away order of protection issued by the court. Following reports of the infraction, Town of Ellicott police charged Jacob Rivera-Abbey with criminal contempt in the first degree, a felony.
Authorities claim that Rivera-Abbey was at the victim’s home even though the court order forbade him from being there. The allegation was raised to a felony after it was discovered that Rivera-Abbey had previously been found guilty of criminal contempt in the second degree.
After being arrested, Rivera-Abbey was sent to the Chautauqua County Jail and kept until his scheduled arraignment. In order to respond to the charges, he is anticipated to appear in Town of Ellicott court later.
The accused is deemed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, just like everyone else who is accused of a crime.
