Jason Kelce won’t be charged in altercation that appeared to show him smashing someone’s phone

According to a school official Wednesday, Jason Kelce, a former offensive lineman for the Philadelphia Eagles, will not face charges related to an argument outside Beaver Stadium at Penn State University last month in which he appeared to smash someone’s cellphone.

The argument, which was apparently started by a fan using a derogatory term about his brother, happened on November 2 at the Penn State-Ohio State game in Happy Valley. Kelce’s younger brother is Travis Kelce, a tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs.

NBC News confirmed social media footage that showed Kelce strolling outside the stadium with a case of beer in hand, surrounded by supporters.

In reference to Travis Kelce’s relationship with pop singer Taylor Swift, a man could be heard shouting at Kelce in the background before describing Kelce’s brother with a homophobic slur.

After that, Kelce can be seen in the videos turning around, grabbing the man’s phone, smashing it to the ground, picking it up again, and leaving.

The individual appears to be pursuing Kelce and requesting the return of his phone from a different perspective. Kelce seems to be repeating the slur back to the man in the video.

In an email sent on Wednesday, Penn State spokesperson Jacqueline Sheader stated that the issue has been closed by the school’s public safety and police departments.

According to Sheader, no one has reported the damage to personal property to University Police, and the person in the video clip that is making the rounds on social media has not been recognized.

Last month, Kelce expressed regret on ESPN’s “Monday Night Countdown.”

You see, I’m not pleased with anything that happened. He said, “I’m not proud of it.” And I decided to respond to hate with hate during a heated moment. And that simply doesn’t seem like a productive thing to me. Actually, I don’t.

Since his retirement at the end of the previous season, Kelce has been an ESPN pundit. He attended the game as part of College GameDay on the network.

On Wednesday, ESPN stated that it was unable to comment on the situation.
