Journalist Christ Wallace is leaving CNN after almost three years, the network said Monday.
Wallace, 77,
told The Daily Beast
on
Monday
that he would pursue an independent platform like streaming or podcasting, as that’s “where the action seems to be.”
Wallace hosted the Sunday political show “Fox News Sunday” on Fox News for 18 years, before announcing in late 2021 that
he was leaving for CNN to host a CNN+ program
.
But CNN+, a streaming service, was not to last. The network
announced in April 2022
that CNN+ would close at the end of the month.
Wallace had a CNN show, “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?” that streamed on Max, and also was a regular figure on the network’s coverage of the 2024 election.
“Chris Wallace is one of the most respected political journalists in the news business with a unique track record across radio, print, broadcast television, cable television and streaming,” CNN CEO and Chairman Mark Thompson said in a statement Monday.
“We want to thank him for the dedication and wisdom he’s brought to all his work at CNN and to wish him the very best for the future,” Thompson said.
Wallace’s three-year contract with CNN will lapse at the end of the year, The Daily Beast reported.
“This is the first time in 55 years I‘ve been between jobs,” Wallace told the outlet. “I am actually excited and liberated by that.”
