Kendrick Lamar to perform Super Bowl halftime show one week after 5 Grammy wins

Kendrick Lamar, who is also coming off of an especially hot 2024, has already had a busy February.

Additionally, he will be the main attraction for the Super Bowl halftime show on Sunday night in the Caesers Superdome in New Orleans.

In September, the NFL revealed that Lamar would be the main attraction at the much anticipated concert.

“Rap music continues to be the most influential genre. And I’ll be there to remind everyone of the reason. In a statement made public by the NFL at the time, Lamar, 37, stated, “They got the right one.”

It was revealed late last month that SZA would take the stage with him.

The last time Lamar performed at the Super Bowl was in 2022, when he joined a number of other rappers and hip-hop artists for a West Coast-themed performance at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

Lamar’s hit “Not Like Us,” which was a diss track directed at Canadian rapper Drake after a months-long dispute, topped the charts last summer and is expected to be played on Sunday’s ceremony.

“Not Like Us” became the quickest rap single to exceed 700 million Spotify plays and debuted at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, making it one of the most popular songs of the summer. Lamar received numerous Grammy nods for it this year as well.

Due to its enormous popularity, Drake filed a federal lawsuit last month against Universal Music Group, the record label that represents both rappers but operates under separate divisions. Drake claimed that the music group had used its resources to “elevate a dangerous and inflammatory message that was designed to assassinate Drake’s character.”

With 22 Grammys and 29 BETs, Kendrick Lamar is among the most accomplished rappers in history. He became the first musician outside of the classical or jazz genres to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 2018.

Last Sunday’s Grammy Awards saw Lamar emerge as the most successful performer, taking home five Grammys, including both song and record of the year for “Not Like Us.”

Lamar’s most recent album, “GNX,” was unexpectedly published on November 22. “Squabble Up,” a new song on the album, was hinted at in the “Not Like Us” music video. SZA appears on two of the tracks, and it comes after Lamar’s 2022 album Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers.
