(WNY News Now)Buffalo, New YorkA Lake Effect Snow Warning has been issued by the Buffalo National Weather Service (NWS), and it will be in effect from 10 a.m. on Monday, January 20, until 4 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22. According to the warning, northern Erie and Genesee counties may see significant snowfall; the most persistent snow bands are predicted to accumulate between 8 and 16 inches overall.
What to Expect
The period from late Monday afternoon to Tuesday is expected to see the most snowfall. Areas from South Buffalo and the Buffalo Southtowns that stretch eastward over southern Genesee County are notably highlighted in the alert.
Road conditions are predicted to rapidly deteriorate throughout this period, with significant snow cover and extremely low visibility. Because lake effect snow can produce concentrated and severe snowfall bands, the NWS cautions locals to be ready for unexpected weather and travel conditions.
Safety Precautions
If travel is required at this time, drivers are advised to proceed with extreme caution. Make sure your car has the necessary tires, an emergency kit, and a full fuel tank for winter driving. Residents are urged to stay away from pointless travel and to keep an eye out for any changes in the weather by following local authorities and NWS updates.
Stay Informed
Over short distances, weather conditions during lake effect snow can change significantly. While places a few miles distant might have bright sky, areas with a lot of snow might have far less visibility.
