Las Vegas police arrest 57 striking casino workers, says union

The Culinary Union posted on X that 57 striking casino employees were taken into custody by Las Vegas police Thursday during a demonstration outside Virgin Hotels Las Vegas.

Due to the failure of negotiations to secure a new five-year union pay deal, hundreds of casino employees at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas went on strike last week.

Pictures and videosMembers were obstructing a road in front of the hotel, according to a union post on X. Additionally, other pictures showed cops handcuffing union members.

According to one of the union’s posters, Culinary Union workers are on strike outside of Virgin HotelsLV as they are being detained for nonviolent civil disobedience.

According to the Culinary Union, police also detained the union’s president, Diana Valles, and other executives.

Police in Las Vegas also reported that following the arrests, the route near the casino that had been blocked because of protesters had reopened.

This weekend, the city is hosting the Formula One Grand Prix.

According to the hotel’s website, JC Hospitality, Juniper Capital Partners, Virgin Group, and others control Virgin Hotels Las Vegas.

A request for comment from Reuters was not immediately answered by Virgin Hotels.
