(WNY News Now) A Rochester man is charged with several offenses after he allegedly called 911 to commit robbery and then unprovokedly attacked a responding police officer.
New York’s Rochester.Brandon Volpe, 37, of Rochester, entered a not guilty plea to charges related to a violent fight he had with police on Tuesday afternoon.
Around 4 p.m., the Rochester Police Department (RPD) was called to the Delta Sonic car wash on West Ridge Road in response to a reported robbery. Officers investigated the location, but they discovered no signs of a robbery.
Volpe allegedly approached a uniformed officer during their investigation, asked a question, and then unexpectedly punched the officer in the face. According to the police, Volpe kept hitting the officer before being restrained and taken into custody.
After receiving treatment for facial injuries at a hospital, the injured cop was allowed to go.
Investigators were able to link Volpe’s phone to the 911 call that reported the suspected crime. The bogus report, according to authorities, was part of a calculated scheme to entice officers to the attack site.
Volpe is currently being charged with third-degree false reporting of an incident and second-degree assault. At the Monroe County Jail, he is still being held.
Volpe is expected to appear in court again on December 23 at 2:00 p.m.The accused is deemed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, just like everyone else who is accused of a crime.
