Man shoots 7 police officers called to ‘suicide in progress’ in San Antonio

Authorities stated that after responding to a “suicide in progress” call in San Antonio on Wednesday night, seven police officers were shot after an hours-long armed confrontation.

Before a “second call came in for shots being fired” at an apartment complex on Stone Oak Parkway, officers received a call for “a suicide in progress” just before 8:30 p.m. CT, according to a statement from the police department.

William P. McManus, the chief of police in San Antonio, informed reporters on the scene that at least one of the calls was from a relative of the suspect.

“A female exited the apartment stating that the suspect was shooting inside, and he was coming out,” the police statement reads when cops arrived.

Brandon Scott Poulos, 46, was claimed to have “then exited the apartment and opened fire on the responding officers, striking one officer in the leg,” according to the police.

According to authorities, he shot six more officers while he was confined to the property.

The seven officers will all make “a full recovery,” according to the police, and their injuries were not life-threatening.According to the police, they had been employed for four to eight years.

This triggered “several hours of negotiating, and other means to get the suspect to surrender peacefully,” according to the police, after the suspect sought refuge inside the flat.

According to San Antonio’s NBC affiliate WOAI, police removed tenants from the apartment complex who could be safely relocated.

It wasn’t immediately obvious whether the guy had shot himself or had been slain by police, but officers eventually found him dead.

In a Facebook video, police chief McManus stated, “SWAT arrived on the scene and the suspect barricaded himself inside the apartment for several hours,”

“The suspect was discovered dead at the conclusion of the incident. Whether he was shot by SWAT forces or by a self-inflicted wound is unknown to us,” McManus stated.

Joseph Loredo, a neighbor, reported that while studying, he heard a loud pop. He then went to his balcony, where he saw at least two helicopters and heard additional gunfire.

“I noticed one of the SAPD officers had been shot when I went outside,” he told WOAI. Since they were applying a tourniquet to him before dragging him away, it appeared to be a leg wound.

The first officers to arrive were subsequently joined by a SWAT squad and sheriff’s deputies.

“PD was actually firing back,” stated Loredo. “A few of the officers were actually shot by the shooter. I therefore saw this. I witnessed a handful of them being shot.

According to McManus, the suspect was taken into custody on Saturday on two charges of assault and one count of driving under the influence.
