Police say the death is suspicious after finding a smoldering body in a Northeast Philadelphia home’s driveway early Tuesday morning.
A guy with significant burns was discovered lying in the driveway when the Philadelphia police and fire departments arrived at the scene of a fire in the 8000 block of Leonard Street just after three in the morning, according to a news release from the authorities.
At 3:23 a.m., the man, whose age was unknown, was declared dead at the site.
According to investigators, striking matches and a gas can were discovered close to the deceased.
The investigation is still ongoing after the body was brought to the medical examiner’s office. The Philadelphia medical examiner’s office has been contacted by NBC News for comment.
According to NBC Philadelphia, a K-9 police was sniffing for clues at the area early Tuesday, and a fence next to the driveway looked to have been destroyed by the fire.
