Only a few months after her husband and his brother were killed by an alleged drunk driver, Madeline Gaudreau, the widow of NHL player Johnny Gaudreau’s brother Matthew Gaudreau, gave birth to her first child.
On Sunday, the new mother revealed the name of her baby boy, Tripp Matthew, on Instagram.
With the description, “Mommy & Daddy’s world,” the image showed the newborn’s small hand resting on a baby blanket next to a sign that said, “He’s Here.”
On August 29, Madeline lost her husband, Matthew Gaudreau, 29, and his brother, Johnny Gaudreau, 31, after they were struck by a suspected drunk driver while riding their bikes in New Jersey. The night before they were scheduled to be groomsmen at their sister’s wedding, they passed away.
Sean M. Higgins, 43, is the driver and is charged with two charges of auto death, reckless driving, possession of an open container, and alcohol use in a motor vehicle.
On September 9, Madeline and Meredith Gaudreau, the widow of Johnny Gaudreau, jointly delivered a eulogy at their husbands’ double funeral.
“I urge everyone to never drink and drive,” Madeline stated. “Get a ride. Don’t subject another family to this pain, please. The community, his close friends, and the family will always be saddened by Matty and John’s passing.
In October, Madeline shared a number of pictures from her baby shower on Instagram, featuring blue and white balloons and décor with a “little piece of heaven” theme.
“My husband would have loved all the balloons,” she stated. “All my friends and family, nothing will bring his dad back or Uncle John, but I am glad he has so many amazing people around him to remind him how amazing they are.”
