Mayville Man Arrested for Weapon Possession and Violating Court Order

(WNY News Now) Deputies responding to a disturbance in Mayville uncovered a prohibited firearm possession, leading to the arrest of a local man.

Mayville, NYIn the early hours of November 19, 2024, at approximately 12:02 a.m., Chautauqua County Sheriff s deputies were called to a residence in Mayville for reports of an unwanted individual. Upon investigation, 44-year-old Robert K. Shumaker Jr., of Mayville, was found in possession of a loaded firearm.

Authorities confirmed that Shumaker, previously convicted of a felony, was legally prohibited from possessing firearms. Additionally, a valid order of protection issued by County Court explicitly barred him from owning or handling weapons.

Shumaker faces charges ofCriminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third DegreeandCriminal Contempt in the Second Degree.He was remanded to the Chautauqua County Jail pending centralized arraignment.

No injuries were reported, and further details have not been released. The investigation remains ongoing. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
