Following the Eaton Fire’s destruction of her Altadena house in Los Angeles County, Meghan Markle and Billy Eilish have joined up to give a 15-year-old fan a meaningful surprise.
About 100 miles from their Montecito home, the Duchess of Sussex and her husband, Prince Harry, recently traveled to the region impacted by the wildfires in Southern California to visit with families in the wake of the catastrophe. They encountered a mother and daughter whose house was in ruins.
The Duchess of Sussex described the touching experience on her Instagram on Tuesday.
“And her mom shared something with me and said that when they came back to see their house for the first time, which is as we were meeting them, that all that she’d been looking for in her home was the t-shirt from the Billie Eilish concert that she had just gone to that she left in the washing machine or the dryer,” said Markle.
“And of course, they now see their home and the washing machine and the dryer are ash,” she continued. “They’re not there anymore.”
Although she needed to gather contacts to get in touch with the Grammy-winning pop musician, Markle was adamant about helping.
“I’m going to find a way to get you this shirt, even though I don’t know Billie Eilish,” Markle remarked. “I made a voice note after thinking of everyone I knew, and I said, ‘Please, can someone get this voice note to Billie Eilish, guys? Here’s what I’m asking.
Singer Adam Levine and his wife, Behati Prinsloo, received the note. With their assistance, Billie Eilish was notified and sent the teenager a tin lunchbox, an autographed copy of “Hit Me Hard and Soft” vinyl, and other items.
Billie Eilish, thank you very much. She will find great meaning in this. Markle said, “To be honest, Adam Levine and Behati, you guys helped get this over the line.” I want to express my gratitude to everyone who has helped individuals, no matter how small, to cope with what has transpired in California.
An NBC News request for comment regarding the surprise was not immediately answered by Meghan Markle’s representatives.
