In court Thursday, country music artist Morgan Wallen entered a guilty plea to earlier this year’s incident in which he threw a chair from a six-story rooftop bar in Nashville.
The 31-year-old performer entered a guilty plea to two reckless endangerment misdemeanor counts.
Wallen received a sentence of two years of probation and seven days of detention at a DUI education facility.
Following the altercation at fellow country music artist Eric Church’s club, Chief’s, in Nashville’s well-known Broadway neighborhood, he was taken into custody in April.
Officers spoke with witnesses and looked over security footage after Wallen threw a chair that landed roughly three feet (1 meter) away, according to an arrest document. Officers were informed by witnesses that Wallen picked up a chair, threw it over the roof, and then laughed about it.
On April 8, Wallen was arrested and then freed.
After the incident, the singer of One Thing at a Time posted an apology on the social media site X.
Until I made apologies with some people, I didn’t feel comfortable checking in in public. I’ve communicated with my family, Nashville police enforcement, and the kind folks at Chief’s. “I accept responsibility and I’m not proud of my behavior,” he wrote.
The country singer won entertainer of the year at the annual CMA awards last month.
Wallen has already garnered media attention for his actions, including the bar incident. After a night of drinking in Nashville in 2021, he was captured on camera yelling a racial epithet outside his Tennessee residence.
No justification exists. I’ve never offered an explanation. In an interview with Billboard two years after the scandal that almost ended his career, Wallen stated, “I never will make an excuse.”
