New York Jets hiring Aaron Glenn as head coach: Reports

According to NFL Network and ESPN, Aaron Glenn, the defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, has been appointed as the head coach of the New York Jets.

From 2021 until the previous season, Glenn, 52, served as the defensive coordinator for the Lions. From 1994 to 2008, he spent 15 seasons as a cornerback in the NFL, primarily with the Jets and Houston Texans.

After a 2-3 start and a 20-26 record in just over three seasons, New York fired head coach Robert Saleh in October and appointed Jeff Ulbrich as interim manager. He was named the new defensive coordinator of the Atlanta Falcons over the weekend after finishing 3-9 with the Jets.

The Jets might need to switch quarterbacks as well. Aaron Rodgers, a likely Hall of Famer, has stated in public that he is unsure of his future but would wait to make a decision until a new general manager and coach are appointed.

On “The Pat McAfee Show” this month, Rodgers stated, “I think everybody understands that it’s going to come down to a GM, a coach, and myself and whether we all want to do a dance together or if it’s not in the cards.”

In the NFL draft in April, New York will be selected seventh overall.

In 2014, Glenn joined the Cleveland Browns as an assistant defensive backs coach to start his coaching career. Before joining the New Orleans Saints as their defensive backs coach in 2016, he played two seasons with the Browns. He remained there until 2020.

Glenn was hired by Detroit in January 2021 under head coach Dan Campbell.

The Lions, who gave up the seventh-fewest points in the NFL during the regular season, are coming off a successful defensive season under Glenn.

This summer, Glenn is the second coordinator to depart Detroit. Ben Johnson, who was the offensive coordinator for the Lions from 2022 to 2024, was appointed as head coach by the Chicago Bears.
