Niagara County Launches Holiday Campaign to Combat Impaired Driving

(WNY News Now) Niagara County law enforcement is part of a statewide initiative to prevent drunk driving and save lives this Christmas season.

The county’s involvement in the STOP-DWI Holiday Season High Visibility Engagement Campaign, a statewide effort to combat drunk driving during the hectic holiday season, has been announced by Niagara County Sheriff Michael J. Filicetti.

The goal of the December 11–January 1 campaign is to improve public safety by lowering crashes caused by drugs and alcohol. Together with officers from throughout New York State, law enforcement agencies in Niagara County will step up their efforts to find and arrest drunk drivers.

A cooperative initiative spearheaded by STOP-DWI New York and backed by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee is the STOP-DWI Holiday High Visibility Engagement Campaign. This yearly campaign focuses on important occasions all year long, such as Halloween, Labor Day, and Independence Day, in addition to the holidays.

Even while earlier programs have been successful in reducing deaths from drug and alcohol abuse, crashes resulting from drunk driving still claim lives.

During the holidays, locals and guests are urged to drive sensibly and prepare by assigning sober drivers or using ridesharing services. The goal of Niagara County law enforcement is still to make sure that everyone travels on safe roads.
