One of Hollywood’s most unappreciated jobs is hosting award presentations, but comedian Nikki Glaser seemed to hit all the right notes with Golden Globes viewers.
Glaser, a stand-up comedian who has been nominated for an Emmy and a Globe, is being commended for elevating the formerly troubled celebration. Critics and fans praised Glaser’s roasting abilities and witty quips throughout the evening, even though ratings have not yet been made public.
During her monologue, Glaser remarked, “I have to admit, it feels like I finally made it.” You know, it was worth it since I’m in front of a group of producers at the Beverly Hilton Hotel and I’m dressed up this time.
The evening stood in sharp contrast to the 2024 show, when presenter Jo Koy’s performance was deemed bad by many after many of his jokes failed. (Koylater claimed that although he had a bad night, it was hard to hear the criticism he received.)
Glaser just finished an extremely public year. In May, Nikki Glaser’s second HBO stand-up show, Someday You’ll Die, which received a Globe nomination, made its premiere. She has received a lot of appreciation for her role in The Roast of Tom Brady on Netflix.
Amy Poehler and Tina Fey hosted the event together multiple times, and Sandra Oh shared hosting responsibilities with Andy Samberg in 2019. She was the first woman to present the event alone.
She made fun of Timoth é Chalamet for his portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown during her presentation, stating that his singing voice was so authentic that even Dylan acknowledged it was terrible.
She concluded her remarks by offering some inspiration to the A-list celebrities in attendance who were nominated.
She remarked, “I do want to remind you, if you do lose tonight, just remember that the purpose of creating art is not to win an award.” The goal of creating art is to launch a tequila company that becomes so well-known that you won’t need to create it ever again.
Later in the performance, she tried her own version of Popular from Wicked with a parody song called Pope-ular, a dig to Conclave, while she changed into several sequin ensembles.
Hold on, this is awful? Isn’t this entire show awful? Before she interrupted, she made a joke.
Glaser reminded spectators once again of the value of above-average hosting, according to a reviewer from The Hollywood Reporter, who also dubbed the event a huge improvement over the previous year.
According to Time publications, Glaser was spot on from the first minute she greeted the chamber of stars to the biggest night of the Olympics until the event ended.
According to the Los Angeles Times critics, Glaser deserved the fun she was obviously having because her jokes were good and her delivery was tight.
Glaser told reporters on the red carpet prior to the awards presentation that she rehearsed the monologue ninety-three times.
Glaser stated that she was thrilled about the challenge but that headlining was frightening in an interview with the Globes’ official website that was released prior to the show.
