A man in New York City temporarily cleared the renowned ice skating rink at Rockefeller Center for his boyfriend’s fairytale proposal.
A few years back, Craig Buchholz and Sebastian West went to the rink for one of their first dates. They returned on Thursday, and this time, according to NBC New York, Buchholz collaborated with ring sponsor Chase Freedom to clear the rink so he could pop the question to West.
At first, when someone announced that the rink needed to be removed for cleaning, West went to skate off the ice with the others. Then Buchholz knelt down and produced a tiny box containing two rings, one for each of them.
West told NBC New York that he first went ice skating at the Rockefeller Center rink. He said, “It’s great to be back a few years later and now engaged, and I have Craig to thank for both of those occasions.”
“I was really just excited and time was moving so slowly, so I just wanted to get to the clear-the-ice moment,” Buchholz continued.
Later, West and Buchholz toasted with champagne by the rink. There are roughly 100 bids at the rink each season, according to Tishman Speyer, a real estate firm that co-owns Rockefeller Center, who spoke to NBC New York.
