Following a hit-and-run event, Justin A. Wnuk, 43, of Orchard Park, was given a nine-month jail sentence and had his driver’s license revoked, according to Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane. Justice Debra L. Givens of the State Supreme Court presided over the sentencing.

Around 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 7, 2024, the incident occurred. Wnuk hit a 69-year-old woman wheeling a stroller by the side of the road while he was traveling west on Hunters Ridge Road in Orchard Park in a sedan. Wnuk left the scene of the crash without informing the police of what had happened.

In addition to fractures to her knee, hip, and spine, the victim also suffered a brain injury. To receive treatment, she was taken by EMS to Erie County Medical Center (ECMC). The female toddler in the stroller sustained minor cuts but did not need to be admitted to the hospital.

Shortly after, Wnuk was found by Orchard Park Police and taken into custody. Wnuk entered a guilty plea to one count of Leaving the Scene of an Incident Resulting in Serious Physical Injury on November 12, 2024. This offense is classified as a Class E felony under the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law. Wnuk entered a guilty plea to the most serious offense, according to the prosecution, but the charge was not less serious.

Orchard Park Police Lieutenant Michael Mackey and Officers Alex Vranic, Michael Lococo, and Kelly Wyrough were commended by District Attorney Keane for their prompt action and careful investigation. Assistant District Attorneys Christine O. Murray and Natasha G. Greenan of the Vehicular Crimes Bureau prosecuted the case.
