Meta pushes back on claims that it’s boosting Trump on Facebook and Instagram

As he returned to the White House on Monday, Meta is refuting allegations that it promoted President Donald Trump and his administration on its platforms. After their government succeeded previous President Joe Biden, several Facebook and Instagram users voiced concern after receiving notices that their accounts had followed the sites of President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance. However, according to a Meta representative, the modifications were a normal part of administrative rotation. On Instagram, some users reported that the #democrat hashtag's search results weren't appearing on Monday or early Tuesday. Instead, they displayed a notice that said, "We've hidden these results," along with the warning that the phrase they looked for might contain sensitive content. Some users q...

HHS official halts CDC reports and health communications for Trump team review

The memo, which was obtained by NBC News, instructs the heads of the National Institutes of Health, the Food and Drug Administration, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to hold off on releasing any documents or communications—including press releases and regulations—to the public until they have been examined and approved by a presidential appointee. The pause began immediately and will end on February 1. The memo allowed for communications that might be deemed a critical health and safety issue to be released. During a ca...

Bishop at inaugural prayer service urges Trump to ‘have mercy’ on LGBTQ children, immigrants

The bishop presiding over Tuesday's first prayer service called on President Donald Trump to "have mercy" on his constituents, mentioning immigrants and members of the LGBTQ community in particular. The Episcopal bishop of Washington, the Right Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde, gave the sermon as a component of a broader ecumenical event held at Washington National Cathedral following Inauguration Day. As is customary for presidents of both parties, Trump attended the service sitting in the front row with first lady Melania Trump, vice president JD Vance, and second lady Usha Vance. Looking straight at the president, Budde stated, "In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now." Democratic, Republican, and independent households all have childre...

Bills fans raise over $60K for diabetes research to support Ravens player who dropped crucial pass

Despite their reputation for wild antics, Buffalo Bills supporters have united to support an opposing player when he received a barrage of hate mail online this week rather than climbing on tables. Mark Andrews, a tight end for the Baltimore Ravens, fumbled and then missed a two-point conversion that would have knotted the score in the fourth quarter of Sunday's pivotal playoff game between the Bills and the Ravens. In the end, the Bills prevailed 27–25 and will play the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday. After the game, video showed Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson comforting Andrews, who seemed devastated. "We're a team," stated Jackson. "It's all of us, bruh, it ain't just you." In interviews after the defeat, Jackson and head coach John Harbaugh both backed the ...

Supreme Court leans toward reviving excessive claim against cop who killed a Black man in a traffic stop

WASHINGTON — On Wednesday, the justices of the Supreme Court seemed ready to grant a claim of excessive force against a police officer for shooting a Black man after a routine traffic stop in Houston. In April 2016, Ashtian Barnes, 24, was killed as he was talking to an officer when the car he was driving began to move forward. When the automobile proceeded, Harris County Precinct 5 Constable's Office traffic enforcement officer Roberto Felix Jr. leaped on the car door sill and shot Barnes twice. Barnes passed away right there. The question at hand is whether the courts improperly concentrated on Felix's decision to shoot rather than the seconds before it in order to determine whether he used excessive force. The decision will aid in deciding whether Janice Hughes, Barnes' mother, may proc...
