Swiss Olympic snowboarder Sophie Hediger dies in avalanche at 26
Zurich The Swiss-Ski federation said on Tuesday that a member of the country's national snowboard cross squad had perished in an avalanche at the eastern mountain resort of Arosa.
The avalanche caught 26-year-old Sophie Hediger in Arosa, west of Davos, on Monday, according to the federation.
Walter Reusser, the Sport CEO at Swiss-Ski, stated in a statement, "We are in a state of shock and our thoughts are with Sophie's family, to whom we extend our deepest condolences."
According to the federation, Hediger participated in the 2022 Winter Olympics in China and earned her first two World Cup podium finishes in the 2023–24 season.
