Army prepares to lift plane from the Potomac as officials vow to recover all victims

Local and state officials have pledged to recover all 67 of the victims who perished when Flight 5432 crashed into a military helicopter last Wednesday, and the difficult task of retrieving the wrecked aircraft from the Potomac River is scheduled to start on Monday. The remains of 55 people have been found thus far. At a press conference on Sunday, D.C. Fire and EMS Chief John Donnelly declared, "We're going to recover everyone." "If we knew where they were, though, we would already have them out, so we have some work to do as the salvage operation goes on, and we will absolutely stay here and search until such point as we have everybody," he stated. Near-zero vision in the murky waters has presented challenges for recovery crews. Over the course of three days, the Baltimore District of th...

Voucher law could be a game changer for SC high school sports

Written by Shaun Chornobroff for the SC Daily Gazette Columbia All South Carolina high school athletes who transfer schools can be eligible to play for their new team right away starting the following academic year. The state's 2023 voucher law contains a single sentence that hasn't received much attention—that is, until senators began discussing a bill this session that would restore the K–12 private tuition scholarships that the state Supreme Court struck down. This sentence has the potential to revolutionize the rules governing middle and high school athletics. Senate Minority Leader Brad Hutto raised concerns about the potential exploitation of a carve-out rule for student athletes receiving state aid during a subcommittee meeting on the bill. He was told that the law already include...

According to Chief Harris, this is a significant accomplishment for the Catawba Nation. Our tribe now has more control and flexibility over federal transportation money because to our self-governance compact, which enables us to increase community safety and connection. Dozens of earthquakes shake Greek island of Santorini

As hundreds of earthquakes rocked the well-known vacation spot for a fourth day, schools stayed closed and more flights were planned to assist people in leaving the Greek island of Santorini on Monday. Since Friday, officials have been forced to close schools in Santorini and the neighboring islands of Ios, Amorgos, and Anafi due to tremors that have been detected between the volcanic islands of Santorini and Amorgos in the Aegean Sea. On Monday, Santorini was rocked by earthquakes every few minutes, some of which had magnitudes higher than 4, prompting residents to avoid small ports and inside areas. As a precaution, disaster response units were stationed on the ground. Since some of the island's most inhabited districts are situated on precipitous cliffs, experts predict that the seismic...
