When asked if Netanyahu would be detained if he arrived in Ireland for any reason, Harris said national network RTE, "We support international courts and we apply their warrants." Trump’s return may force Europe’s hand on China and Ukraine

United Arab Emirates' DUBAI As President-elect Donald Trump gets ready to enter office, shifting tectonic plates are sending tremors of uncertainty from Beijing to Brussels. The consequences might cause the United States' goals to diverge from those of its closest European allies in ways that haven't happened in decades. According to multiple European officials and diplomats who spoke to NBC News, the incoming administration is likely to put pressure on European leaders to adopt a tougher stance against China, which it views as America's principal adversary. However, their nations are economically intertwined with both powers, and their interests don't always coincide with Washington's. They would probably stray even more if Trump were to carry on his pledge to put tariffs on imports fro...

Elon Musk criticizes Australia’s proposed ban on social media for children

Social networking platform X's owner, tech billionaire Elon Musk, has blasted proposed Australian laws that would outlaw social media use by minors. In order to stop kids and young teens from using social media sites like X, Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, Australia intends to test an age-verification system that might involve biometrics or official identification. If there are systemic violations, businesses could face fines of up to 50 million Australian dollars ($32.5 million). One of the harshest laws on social media in the world was unveiled Thursday by Australia's center-left government in Parliament. It appears to be a backdoor method to restrict all Australians' access to the Internet. Musk, a self-described supporter of free expression, responded on Xin Thursday to a post made b...

Formula 1 returns to Las Vegas as Max Verstappen looks to clinch championship

LAS VEGAS Max Verstappen hopes that events in Vegas will be recorded in history rather than simply remaining in Vegas. The Red Bull racer has the opportunity to win the Formula 1 world championship here on Saturday night, joining only Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel, Alain Prost, and Juan Manuel Fangio as four-time champions. The 27-year-old Dutch driver Verstappen can win the trophy if he finishes the 50-lap race ahead of Lando Norris, his only opponent for the title. With three races remaining in the season, no other driver is mathematically in the running for the championship. It appe...

Skulls found on New Mexico property not related to missing woman case

The Lea County Sheriff's Office stated Thursday that skulls discovered on a New Mexico property earlier this month were acquired online and had nothing to do with the investigation of a lady who vanished in 2019. As reported by the sheriff's office, a man with two bags who had been given a ride by someone in the county "made alarming statements and discarded objects from the vehicle, some of which appeared to be human bones." According to the sheriff's office last week, human remains were discovered following a search of a property connected to the man in Jal, a city of around 2,000 people in the state's southeast. "Investigators have determined that the skulls were procured online," the office said Thursday, adding that additional inquiry revealed the seven recovered skulls contained carv...

Trump’s transition team turns to Project 2025 after disavowing it during the campaign

After Democrats attacked his campaign, President-elect Donald Trump and his allies disavowed the conservative Project 2025 during the election, viewing the conservative transition plan and policy blueprint as a problem. The co-chair of Trump's transition and his choice to be Commerce Secretary, Howard Lutnick, told CNBC in September that they had made themselves nuclear. However, Trump's transition team is looking to Project 2025 to assist in staffing the incoming administration now that the campaign is over.
