Democrats’ playbook for Trump 2.0: Tune out the noise and focus on economic issues

Washington House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries met behind closed doors with Democratic lawmakers less than 48 hours after President Donald Trump took office in order to give a clarion cry and a warning. According to a witness in the room who asked to remain anonymous in order to disclose the secret conversation, Jeffries told the Democrats that the Trump administration was going to flood the area and that they couldn't afford to pursue every outrage or nothing would sink in for the American people. Jeffries, D-N.Y., asked members to emphasize border security, community safety, and the cost of living in their message. In reference to the GOP agenda and expenditure cutbacks it is considering, Jeffries told reporters the next day that the House Republican Contract Against America is an ex...

Public schools try to protect undocumented students from Trump immigration raids

In recent days, at least eight sizable public school districts in the US have pledged to work toward shielding undocumented immigrant students and their families from the widespread deportation campaign of President Donald Trump. Restrictions that prohibited Immigration and Customs Enforcement from conducting raids at alleged sensitive areas, such as schools (as well as houses of worship and hospitals), have been lifted by the Trump administration. Public school districts are primarily exempt from inquiring about or maintaining records of their students' compliance with immigration rules since, according to the Education Department, all children in the United States are entitled to a public education, regardless of their legal status. However, teachers' and families' concerns have grown as...

Trump’s endorsement faces first tests of his presidency in Florida special primary elections

In two Florida special primary elections on Tuesday, the strength of President Donald Trump's support will be put to the test for the first time during his second term. Florida Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis in the 1st Congressional District and state Senator Randy Fine in the 6th District, two of Trump's favorite candidates, seem to be in a great position, outpacing their main rivals in fundraising and attracting outside assistance. According to Florida consultant Jamie Miller, a former executive director of the state GOP, "Trump's endorsement has loomed large in Florida Republican politics for most of a decade," pointing out that Trump's backing was a key element in helping Gov. Ron DeSantis win his 2018 primary. A qualified candidate has a very high chance of winning a primary i...

Altadena couple finds engagement ring in rubble of where their home once was

After the devastating Eaton Fire, Brian McShea and Stephanie Raynor searched through the rubble of their former Altadena house to see what they might rescue. McShea was searching for a particular item that he believed was still undamaged, while Raynor searched for any items that had survived the fire. McShea suddenly discovered the engagement ring he would use to pop the question to Raynor among the debris that represented the couple's material possessions. He recalled that my initial thought was, "Oh, look, here it is." McShea specifically located the ring beneath his guitar's strings. McShea made the decision to pop the question to his beloved right then and there. "You consider how much pressure and perfection you desire at the time of your proposal," he stated. When I discovered it, i...

‘Dr. Phil’ embedded with immigration authorities during ICE action in Chicago

As authorities stepped up enforcement operations around the United States on Sunday, Phil McGraw, the former host of a daytime talk program, tweeted a video of himself riding along with immigration agents in Chicago. McGraw, a former psychotherapist who became well-known with Oprah Winfrey and presented Dr. Phil for over 20 years, claimed to have embedded himself with Immigration and Customs Enforcement to demonstrate the agency's focused efforts to capture terrorists and known criminals. Speaking to McGraw in a segment on Merit Street Media, a network founded by the former talk-show host a year ago, Trump administration border czar Thomas Homan advised viewers to disregard the myth that immigration officials are conducting neighborhood sweeps that target people of color. He answered, "Loo...

Spectator killed by hammer weight thrown at high school track meet in Colorado

Officials verified that a guy was unintentionally murdered at a high school track and field event in Colorado on Sunday morning after a competitor's thrown hammer weight struck him after clearing barriers. The spectator was recognized by the El Paso County Coroner's Office as 57-year-old Wade Langston. According to a statement from the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, Langston was at a meet when the hammer—a weight on a grip that is swung in a circular motion and then thrown—went into the audience instead of the field at around 9:30 a.m. A member of the audience was killed when a hammer thrown by a competitor struck him after it cleared certified barriers during a club sports track and field meet for high school students from all over Colorado at the Mountain Lion Fieldhouse on ...

Trump floats foreign imprisonment of American criminals who are ‘repeat offenders’

On Monday, President Donald Trump proposed that the United States pay a nominal fee to foreign countries to house repeat offenders in American prisons, thereby creating a sort of contemporary penal colony. During his remarks at a gathering for House Republicans in Miami, the president marketed the notion as a cost-cutting tool. Trump stated, "I want them out of our country if they have been arrested a lot and they are repeat offenders by a large number." Hopefully, we will obtain permission to remove them from our nation, along with others, and allow them to be transported abroad to be cared for by others for a very nominal cost." Trump claimed that by doing this, the federal government would be able to avoid using private prisons, which he claimed cost Americans a fortune, and American j...

ICE agents search for those with criminal histories but say ‘collateral arrests’ are possible

Chicago As they got ready to approach what they referred to as their target, a number of Customs Enforcement and Immigration officers, together with other federal employees, waited in unmarked vehicles. He had been seen by a surveillance crew at his place of employment, a tire store in Chicago, on Monday morning. As Fragoso Lara was speaking to a customer outdoors in below-freezing weather, agents blocked off the street outside the establishment and took him into custody.
