(WNY News Now) The Park School of Buffalo’s Upper School Jazz Ensemble showcases student-driven ability and inventiveness by putting a distinctive, hilarious spin on the well-known Bill Nye the Science Guy theme song in a creative mix of science and music.
December 6, 2024, Amherst, NY For the Park School of Buffalo’s All-School Autumn Assembly finale last Tuesday, November 26, 2024, members of the Upper School Jazz Ensemble decided they wanted to do something very spectacular. They joined forces (pun intended) to produce a fantastic version of the Bill Nye the Science Guy theme song jazz, fusing their passion for science, music composition, and performance! The band’s members include Griffin Polaske (27), Gabe Epstein (27), Eli Sholly (25), Jay Pillai (25), and Brody Kalls (27), who plays drums and keyboard.
This satisfies the need of anyone seeking a visual depiction of The Park School of Buffalo. Instead of merely completing a graduation requirement, the students in this film are passionate about science for the purpose of learning and exploration. They decided to do so because they wanted to combine their love of music with their academic education. The band composed and performed this composition purely for enjoyment, not only to fulfill a requirement, in keeping with Park’s teaching philosophy, which centers the learning process around the students. The entire performance is student-driven and incredibly talented; Park senior Jay Pillai, who is adept at improvisation, frequently plays jazz piano at Park School events. In addition to writing his own music, he organized this tribute to Bill Nye because Jay intends to major in theoretical science and math in college and become a doctor.
The video is being shared across social media, and we hope that Bill Nye will see it and find it hilarious!
