Following a four-day search, authorities believe they have located the body of the Pennsylvania grandmother who fell down a sinkhole while looking for her cat.
Elizabeth Pollard, 64, was last seen in Unity Township, approximately 40 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, around 5 p.m. on Monday. She was thought to have fallen into a decades-old mine shaft, estimated to be at least 30 feet deep, after falling through a sinkhole.
According to Pittsburgh’s NBC affiliate WPXI, which cited state police, her body was discovered on Friday.
Reporters were informed by Pennsylvania State Police on Wednesday that the search had changed from being a rescue to a recovery operation.
On Monday, a relative reported Pollard missing.
The 5-year-old granddaughter was still in her car when state troopers found it parked next to a restaurant. Despite the frigid weather, the grandchild was in good health, according to the authorities.
Authorities discovered the sinkhole between 15 and 20 feet from Pollard’s vehicle.
