Just a few months after completing chemotherapy, Catherine, Princess of Wales, gave a reflection on her cancer journey at a royal function this year.
“Together at Christmas,” the fourth annual carol service, was hosted by Kate on Friday at Westminster Abbey. Her three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, as well as her husband, William, Prince of Wales, joined her.
A film of Kate talking with singer Paloma Faith about her difficult year was posted on X by the U.K.’s Channel 5 News.
Kate responded, “I didn’t know this year was going to be the year that I just had,” when Faith inquired about her well-being.
“The unplanned,” explained Faith.
Kate nodded in agreement and responded, “The unexpected. Indeed.
“But I think lots of people this year have had such challenging times,” Kate said.
It’s a unique look inside Kate’s life and her cancer struggle.
In a March video message, Kate revealed the news and stated that she will be receiving “a course of preventative chemotherapy.” She added that during her major abdominal surgery in January, the malignancy was discovered.
It is unknown what type of cancer Kate had or what kind of abdominal surgery she had months prior.
Kate said in September that she had finished chemotherapy and would resume a reduced public appearance schedule through the end of the year.
Although Kate had largely avoided the spotlight throughout her medical treatment, the royal family’s custom of attending official functions and other ceremonies continued during that period.
In reference to both Kate’s and his father’s cancer diagnoses, Prince William remarked last month that the past year has been “brutal” and that “it’s probably been the hardest year in my life.”
