Reese Witherspoon says people thought she was a real lawyer while serving jury duty after ‘Legally Blonde’

Because of Legally Blonde, Reese Witherspoon was once forced to step up while serving on a jury.

The actor recalled how her depiction of Elle Woods caused her fellow jurors to mistake her for a genuine lawyer during a recent visit on The Graham Norton Show.

“Listen,” Witherspoon remarked, “I didn’t want to serve on a jury.” However, I do recall being called for jury duty in Beverly Hills, most likely seven years after Legally Blonde. I reasoned that they couldn’t possibly choose me.

She was mistaken.

I was chosen for a protracted trial, everyone. As co-star Will Ferrell of You’re Cordially Invited made fun of the duration, Witherspoon remarked that it was most likely two weeks. Going in, it was two weeks straight. The case involved a dog bite.

According to her, she discovered that many believed she had attended law school when the trial proceeded to deliberation.

They said, “Okay, well, somebody in this group has to be the foreman,” at the very end of our deliberation. And they all say, “Her,” she said, without exception. Me! Me?

“You went to law school,” she answered in response to the jurors’ question about why they chose her. I thought, “Why is all of this so distressing?” Without a doubt, I did not complete college or go law school.

“I once portrayed a lawyer in a film,” she remarked. However, they made me the foreman in full. I also began to realize that people’s knowledge of the law is lacking.

In the 2001 movie Legally Blonde, Witherspoon played Elle Woods, a sorority girl who later studied law. In the 2003 follow-up Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde, she played the same character again. In this film, Elle travels to Washington, D.C., to advocate for animal rights.

For years, there have been rumors that Witherspoon would reprise her role as the pink-obsessed Elle in a third movie.

Reese is really intelligent, and I believe she has been working on something for years. Luke Wilson, who played Elle’s love interest Emmett Richmond, told TODAY.com in October that she wasn’t simply planning to make a third installment.

However, Witherspoon pretended to be Elle in May 2024 to reveal that a Legally Blonde prequel series was being developed for Amazon Prime Video.

Prior to becoming the most well-known vegetarian Gemini to earn a Harvard Law degree, she was a typical high school student in the 1990s. And I’m really excited that you will all get to know her on @primevideo next year! The video was captioned by Witherspoon. Later this year is when the show is anticipated to debut.
