S.C. Archives and History Foundation announces program on S.C. Maritime History

S.C., ColumbiaSouth Carolina’s Maritime History, the newest event organized by the South Carolina Archives and History Foundation (SCAHF), will take place at the SC History Center in Columbia on Saturday, February 1, 2025. The rich nautical history of South Carolina includes pirates, trade, battle, and adventure. To be informed and entertained by a panel of knowledgeable speakers addressing South Carolina’s maritime history, register today. Among the presentations are Pirates, Planters, and Proprietors: The Early South Carolina Economy,The Royal Navy in colonial-era South Carolina, Joe Long, South Carolina State Museum, Dr. Nic Butler, Charleston County Library, James Spirek, USC, State Underwater Archaeologist, Andrew Johnson, PhD, SC Department of Archives & History, Palmetto Privateers of 1812, and more. The show starts at 9:30 AM and ends at 3:30 PM. There is plenty of free parking at the SC History Center, which is situated at 8301 Parklane Road, Columbia, SC 29223. Concerning the Archives and History Foundation of South Carolina: Supporting the services and initiatives of the South Carolina Department of Archives and History, which maintains the Palmetto State’s cultural heritage and public records, is the goal. Since 1993, the Foundation has worked to increase donations and public understanding of the agency’s objectives. The Foundation’s most noteworthy project was the successful capital campaign it ran to assist in financing the building of the South Carolina Department of Archives and History’s (SCDAH) headquarters, the South Carolina Archives and History Center.
