San Francisco 49ers rookie Ricky Pearsall says he forgives the teen who shot him

Wide receiver Ricky Pearsall of the San Francisco 49ers stated that he hopes to speak with the adolescent who shot and injured him in the future and that he forgives them.

“I don’t know how he grew up so, I can’t judge him as a man just based off one action that he made,” the 24-year-old rookie said in a Monday locker room interview that was posted on KNBRin. “As violent as a crime as it was, God forbid him doing that to somebody else.”

“I don t ever want that to happen so … just being able to forgive him at the end of the day like, I have to be able to forgive him to have that weight off my chest,” stated the man.

In August, Pearsall was wounded in the chest during a robbery attempt in San Francisco. At the time, the suspect was a 17-year-old boy, according to the police.

At a press conference in August, San Francisco Police Chief Bill Scott stated that the suspect went up to Pearsall and attempted to rob him with an armed weapon. “Gunfire from the suspect’s gun struck Mr. Pearsall and the suspect,” Scott added, following a scuffle.

Pearsall and the teenager were admitted to the hospital. According to District Attorney Brooke Jenkins, juvenile court charges will be brought against the teenager.

The 49ers selected Pearsall in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft, and he told KNBR that he wanted to speak with the teenager.

“I do want to speak with the child at some point and try to influence him in some way, if at all possible. That would be enormous, in my opinion. “I would definitely be willing to do that,” he stated.
