Scottie Scheffler injures right hand on a broken glass in Christmas dinner mishap, withdraws from PGA Tour opener

The top-ranked golfer was forced to miss the PGA Tour’s season-opening event in Hawaii after Scottie Scheffler hurt his right hand on a piece of broken glass while making Christmas dinner.

According to a statement released by Scheffler’s manager Blake Smith on Friday, Scottie was pierced by a piece of glass in the palm of his right hand. Surgery was necessary to remove the little glass particles that were still in the palm. It is estimated that he will return to full capacity in three to four weeks.

Scheffler pulled out of The Sentry, the winners-only competition held at Kapalua Resort from January 2–5. The American Express, held in La Quinta, California, from January 16–19, is his next competition.

Scheffler joined Tiger Woods as the only golfer to win the Jack Nicklaus Award three times in a row last season after winning the PGA Tour player of the year title by a landslide.

He became the first player to win The Players Championship twice, and he won a second Masters among his seven PGA Tour victories. When he shot 62 on the last day, he won an Olympic gold medal. He also won the FedEx Cup by winning the Tour Championship.
