Norway’s OSLO According to a Norwegian security police spokesman on Thursday, a security guard at the U.S. embassy in Norway has been detained on suspicion of spying for Iran and Russia.

According to authorities, the individual, a twentysomething Norwegian national, was taken into custody at his residence on Wednesday. While police conduct their investigation, a court decided on Thursday that he might be held for the first four weeks, with the first week being spent in isolation.

Thomas Blom, a lawyer for the security police service PST, informed reporters that the accused individual worked as a security guard at the U.S. embassy in Oslo.

Blom stated that a significant quantity of digital material had been seized and that the man was assisting and speaking with the authorities.

Blom stated, “We are working our way through it, and we have just scraped the top.”

John Christian Elden, the man’s attorney, said that his client had spoken with Iranian and Russian intelligence officials.

Elden told Reuters that although he has provided an explanation for his interactions with Russian and Iranian intelligence officers, it is unclear if he possessed any classified material that may be used against him under anti-espionage legislation.

Whether or not he is guilty of a crime will be revealed by additional investigation.
