A woman in Florida has been sentenced to life in prison for brutally attacking her parents after they told her she had to move out. Christina Anne Adams, 33, was given two consecutive life sentences for the murder of her father, Richard Langer, and the attempted murder of her mother, Sally Langer.
The sentencing was announced on Wednesday by Judge Timothy McCourt, who handed down the punishment in a Florida state court. The court ruled that Adams would remain behind bars for the rest of her life without the possibility of parole.
According to the Fifth Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office, the incident took place on September 16, 2022. Deputies from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office were called to a home on SE 70th Terrace in Ocala, Florida, after receiving a 911 call about a stabbing that had just occurred.
When officers arrived at the house, they found both of Adams’ parents suffering from multiple stab wounds. While emergency responders were treating them, her father, Richard Langer, identified his daughter as the one who attacked them.
Officials later confirmed that Richard died from his injuries. Sally survived the attack but was left seriously injured.
Law enforcement quickly issued an alert for Adams. A short time later, she was stopped by officers while driving, accompanied by her wife. Both women were taken into custody for questioning.
During the investigation, Adams’ wife said she had been running errands before meeting Adams at a grocery store. She told police that nothing seemed unusual when they met and that Adams hadn’t mentioned anything about an argument or a violent incident.
However, detectives noticed that Adams’ story did not match her wife’s account. When confronted with the inconsistencies, Adams admitted to being upset after her parents asked her to move out of the house they all shared.
She told detectives she got angry, picked up a large knife, and stabbed both her father and mother multiple times. Adams believed they were dead when she left the house.
After the attack, she changed her clothes and went shopping, according to law enforcement reports. She also tried to destroy some evidence before fleeing the scene.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Adams confessed to the attack during questioning. Her father’s dying statement naming her as the attacker was a key piece of evidence in the case.
Walter Forgie, the Chief Assistant State Attorney for the Fifth Judicial Circuit, said in a statement after the sentencing that the justice system had done its job in bringing closure to the victims’ families.
“Our fundamental duty is to seek justice, and in pursuing this goal, we strive to provide closure for the victims and their families while ensuring accountability for those responsible,” Forgie said. “Today, as difficult as it has been for the victims and their families, I believe we’ve gotten just that.”
The case shocked many in the community, as it involved an intense family dispute that turned deadly. The fact that Adams continued with her day as though nothing had happened added to the disturbing nature of the crime.
Now with the sentencing complete, Christina Anne Adams will spend the rest of her life in a state prison, serving two life terms back-to-back, with no chance of release.
