The Lea County Sheriff’s Office stated Thursday that skulls discovered on a New Mexico property earlier this month were acquired online and had nothing to do with the investigation of a lady who vanished in 2019.
As reported by the sheriff’s office, a man with two bags who had been given a ride by someone in the county “made alarming statements and discarded objects from the vehicle, some of which appeared to be human bones.”
According to the sheriff’s office last week, human remains were discovered following a search of a property connected to the man in Jal, a city of around 2,000 people in the state’s southeast.
“Investigators have determined that the skulls were procured online,” the office said Thursday, adding that additional inquiry revealed the seven recovered skulls contained carvings or ornamental components from outside the United States.
The sheriff’s office stated that the remains discovered on the property had “no medical or legal significance,” according to the medical examiner.
According to the statement, the remains will be medically cremated.
Shortly after the remains were found, on Nov. 12, the sheriff’s office stated that they might be connected to Angela McManes, who vanished in 2019.
The sheriff’s office stated two days later that, aside from the skulls’ close proximity to McManes’ residence, there did not seem to be any connection between the skulls and her.
