‘Slender Man’ attacker set to be released after 7 years in Wisconsin mental hospital

A judge decided Thursday that the Wisconsin lady, who at the age of 12 plotted with a buddy to ruthlessly knife a classmate in order to appease the imaginary horror figure “Slender Man,” is well enough to be discharged from a mental health facility.

According to Waukesha County Circuit Judge Michael Bohren, 22-year-old Morgan Geyser is now prepared to be transferred to a group home where her mental health will be continuously monitored after spending over seven years at the Winnebago Mental Health Institute.

Judge Bohren was persuaded by the testimony of three medical professionals on Thursday that Geyser has made significant strides and is not a safety danger outside of the hospital.

Nothing indicates that she poses a risk to herself or other people. Additionally, they would agree that there isn’t much that Winnebago (Mental Health Institute) can do for her at this time. Dr. Kenneth Robbins, a psychiatrist who treats Geyser, stated, “I believe it’s in her interest and in everyone’s interest to try to help her now become the person she can become.”

If she is constrained by what Winnebago has to give, I believe there is a chance that she will eventually lose hope and end up endangering herself. Ironically, then, I believe she would be safer outside of Winnebago.

Deborah Collins, a forensic psychologist, concurred, stating that Geyser could only suffer if she remained at Winnebago.

Her medication and treatment compliance in the prison is impressive, as is the fact that she has no behavioral management issues or acts violently toward herself or other inmates. All of things indicate that she is currently ready for conditional release,” she stated. “I believe that Ms. Geyser’s reintegration will be more difficult the longer she stays there at this time.

Additionally, according to psychologist Brooke Lundbohm’s testimony, Geyser has reacted favorably to being taken off of anti-psychotic drugs.

In order to start the brutal attack, Geyser and Anissa Weier lured classmate Payton Leutner to a park in Waukesha on May 31, 2014. According to the prosecution, Geyser repeatedly stabbed Leutner while Weieregged her.

Leutner barely made it out alive, and all three of the girls were twelve at the time. Weier was discharged from the Winnebago Mental Health Institute in the fall of 2021 after spending over four years there.

According to defense attorneys, Geyser and Weier felt they had to attack Leutner or risk the imaginary boogeyman, Slim Man, pursuing their family.

On Thursday, Bohren described the 2014 stabbing as “brutal,” but the judge also noted that Geyser has demonstrated that she is prepared to reintegrate into society.

According to Bohren, she has fulfilled her obligations. She seems to have a positive outlook.

On Friday, a Waukesha County District Attorney’s Office representative was not immediately available for comment.
