SNAP Payments Begin Across Several States Starting October 4: Up to $1,756 for Large Families

Starting October 4, many states in the U.S. will begin issuing Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) payments to eligible recipients. While some states initiated payments on October 1, others—such as Alabama, Arkansas, Maryland, Minnesota, and Mississippi—will begin distributing benefits from October 4. These payments provide vital financial support, helping low-income families and individuals purchase food using Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards.

Overview of SNAP Benefits

SNAP, formerly known as food stamps, is an essential aid program for millions of Americans. The amount of assistance a recipient receives depends on factors such as household size, income, and local living costs. In 2025, after a recent Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) increase, the maximum monthly payment for an individual is $292. A family of four can receive up to $975, while a family of eight may qualify for as much as $1,756. These amounts apply to the 48 contiguous states, ensuring that families have access to sufficient funds for purchasing groceries.

State-Specific Payment Schedules

Each state has its own schedule for distributing benefits. For example, in Alabama, payments will be sent out between October 4 and October 23, based on the last two digits of the recipient’s case number. If your case number ends in 00 to 04, you will receive your benefits on October 4.

Arkansas will issue SNAP payments from October 4 to October 13, depending on the recipient’s Social Security Number (SSN). Those with SSNs ending in 0 or 1 will get their payments on October 4.

Maryland, Minnesota, and Mississippi will also begin payments on October 4. Maryland’s schedule is based on the first three letters of the recipient’s last name, while Minnesota and Mississippi distribute benefits according to the recipient’s case number.
