STOP-DWI Thanksgiving Campaign: A Push for Sober Driving and Safe Roads

(WNY News Now) In an effort to prevent fatalities and lower crash rates, Allegany County is stepping up its efforts to combat drunk driving this Thanksgiving with the beginning of the STOP-DWI High Visibility Engagement Campaign.

November 27–December 1, 2024 is the date of the Allegany County, NYSTOP-DWI Impaired Driving High Visibility Engagement Campaign.

Today, Allegany County Administrator Carissa Knapp declared that the STOP-DWI Coordinator and Allegany County police agencies will take part in specific initiatives to raise awareness of the risks associated with driving while intoxicated.

Millions of people will travel over Thanksgiving holiday in anticipation of spending time with friends and relatives. It’s one of the busiest travel periods of the year, and sadly, there is a greater chance of car accidents because there are more people on the road. Law enforcement personnel from STOP-DWI programs and around New York State will be taking part in special engagement activities to raise awareness of the risks of driving while intoxicated, prevent injuries, and save lives.

November 27, 2024 is the start date of the statewide STOP-DWI High Visibility Engagement Campaign, which runs through December 1, 2024. The Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee and STOP-DWI NY are promoting numerous statewide projects, including the STOP-DWI Thanksgiving High Visibility Engagement Campaign.

Additionally, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day/End of Summer, Halloween, the Holiday Season, Super Bowl weekend, and St. Patrick’s Day are all targeted by the Statewide STOP-DWI High Visibility Engagement Campaign.The goal of well-known, widely reported initiatives such as the STOP-DWI High Visibility Engagement Campaign is to further lower the number of drunk and impaired driving incidents.
