(WNY News Now) – The Syracuse Police Department has identified a suspect in the fatal shooting of Alberto Cirino, a Liverpool resident, following an intensive investigation spanning multiple days.
Syracuse, N.Y. – On the morning of November 5, 2024, Syracuse Police responded to reports of a person down at 320 W. Taylor Street. Officers discovered Alberto Cirino, 23, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the parking lot. Cirino, who resided in Liverpool, received immediate medical care at the scene before being transported to University Hospital by AMR ambulance. Despite intensive efforts by hospital staff, Cirino succumbed to his injuries.
The Syracuse Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID) Homicide Unit quickly launched a thorough investigation. Detectives conducted multiple interviews, carried out neighborhood and citywide canvassing, and executed search warrants to gather evidence. After processing the collected evidence, police identified a suspect: Wilfrey Carrasquillo, 39, of Syracuse.
On November 8, Carrasquillo was located by Boston Police Department’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit in Boston, Massachusetts, where he was taken into custody without incident. He remains detained in Boston, awaiting extradition to Syracuse to face charges.
Carrasquillo is charged with second-degree murder (Penal Law 125.25) and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon (Penal Law 265.03). The CID Homicide Unit is continuing the investigation and encourages anyone with additional information to contact them. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
